Porsche recalls electric car – full battery can catch fire

Porsche has to go through a recall of the Taycan electric car again. This time because a fully charged battery can start a fire.

In the US, Porsche is again forced to recall the Taycan electric car. This time it concerns all cars built between 2021 and 2024.

It turns out that the electric car's battery can overheat and thereby burn up due to a manufacturing error. Porsche has purchased the battery pack itself from LG Energy Solution in Poland, where the packs are also manufactured.

That's what Motor Authority writes.

It remains unknown whether Danish Porsche Taycan models are affected by similar problems. But Boosted follows suit.

Back at Porsche, the error was discovered in the US by reviewing some data from the cars. Porsche also claims that no car has caught fire due to the fault. At least not for the time being.

In the US alone, however, Porsche must recall 27,527 cars.

However, Porsche has a plan. Namely a new software. But that software will not be available until the end of 2025. Until then, Porsche will keep an eye on the cars via data. The car brand states that it will contact the owners 'if necessary'.

On cars from which Porsche cannot obtain data, the brand will carry out a series of tests and, if necessary, replace the entire battery. At the same time, owners are advised to never charge their cars to more than 80 percent current. At least not because the problem is lost.

The sister brand Audi has similar problems with the battery pack in the e-tron model. However, Audi is also fighting against car owners who treat their electric cars completely wrong. Read more about it here .

All in all, electric car owners have recently had to face several and very serious reminders. Most recently, a Nissan Leaf owner had his car completely burnt down because he used the wrong charging cable.

This prompted the authorities to issue a warning to that type of driver. The charging cables must be approved for the individual electric cars, because they are safe enough.
