Öhlins sold for DKK 2.6 billion – here is the copper

The Swedish chassis manufacturer Öhlins has been sold to Italy in a deal worth 2.6 billion Danish kroner. The brake manufacturer Brembo has cashed out.

Swedish Öhlins has a new owner.

The purchase agreement, which according to a press release was published on Friday morning this week, is worth a whopping DKK 2.6 billion.

The press release has been issued by the brake manufacturer Brembo, which has bought the entire Swedish company.

Öhlins has equipped everything from more common (and uncommon) street cars to MotoGP bikes and Formula 1 cars with suspension since the company was founded in Uppland's Väsby in 1976.

For a period Yamaha stepped in as a partner, but founder Kenneth Öhlin bought the company back. And since 2018, the Swedish undercarriage supplier has been owned by American Tennaco. But it's over now.

– We are absolutely sure that Brembo is the right partner to take Öhlins to the next level, says Jim Woss, CEO of Tennaco, to Carup.

It is not yet known how the takeover will affect the various workplaces and production facilities that Öhlins has. In Sweden alone, the company has 500 employees. However, there is also a factory in Thailand as well as distribution centers in Germany and the USA

Brembo is happy about the takeover of the Swedish company. The Italians believe they have now got hold of 'the world's leading suspension manufacturer'.

– We are pleased to be able to acquire the world's leading manufacturer of suspension. At the same time, we gain a lot of experience from the racing world, writes Brembo.
