BMW confirms: The next M3 will also get an inline six

The head of the M division at BMW, Frank van Meel, now confirms that the straight six in the M3 survives. "We let it sing for as long as possible."

The well-known number six is going nowhere. At least not at BMW. The head of the M department, Frank van Meel, confirms this now.

In an interview with BMW Blog, van Meel makes it clear that the next BMW M3 will also be available with an inline six.

At the same time, the M manager said that his employees are already working to make the engine meet the upcoming emission requirements called Euro 7.

– We let the six-cylinder internal combustion engine run for as long as possible. If customer demand is what it is at the moment, and it does not drop, we will not drop the six-cylinder (engine, ed.), said van Meel.

Although the M boss suggests that the department will be able to make an electric car that is 'a little faster' than the alternative with a combustion engine, it will not be BMW that has to peel the six-cylinder machine out of the program.

However, the next M3 is still many years away. First, BMW has to get the common platform for electric cars called 'Neue Klasse' on the road. It will happen next year. Only then can we start talking about performance editions. This gives a time horizon of 3 to 4 years. So around 2028.

BMW believes that the 'Neue Klassen' concept, which is simply called Vision Neue Klasse , is reminiscent of the old E30 3 Series. Do you see what they mean? Check out the car here .
