Electric cars live longer than petrol cars, says Renault boss

Renault's chief executive now claims that motorists have misunderstood electric cars. And that they can live much longer than a similar car with a combustion engine.

You'd have to have been living under a rock not to have noticed the debate about fuel in cars these days. And now the top Renault boss is getting involved.

Luca de Meo, as he is called, claims that drivers have misunderstood the electric car. And that it turns out that at least the batteries last much longer than first thought.

That's what Auto Express writes.

The fact that the electric car, in de Meo's eyes, continues longer after both the petrol and diesel cars have stopped is also connected to the fact that there are far fewer moving parts in an electric car. That means fewer things that can break.

– Contrary to what people thought would happen, the batteries last much longer than expected, says Luca de Meo to the newspaper.

If drivers are also willing to have their electric cars repaired with recycled spare parts, the Renault top management believes that costs can be kept even lower. In addition, it will be able to extend the life of the electric car even further.

The French carmaker has recently partnered with a recycling company to try to speed up the process around recycled material.

However, Renault does not only believe in plug-in electric cars. The French have recently shown a concept bid for a hydrogen car with a range of 1,000 kilometers. Read more about it here.

And they are not alone in this. BMW currently has a number of prototypes based on the regular X5 SUV that are running as hydrogen cars. And in 2028, the first series production will come due to a new agreement with Toyota. The Japanese are already building the Mirai hydrogen car. A car that, despite no hydrogen stations, is still sold in Denmark.
