Test reveals: Cheap wiper blades are better than the expensive ones

Wiper blades can be an expensive wear part. But it doesn't have to be that way if drivers want to be able to see clearly out of the windscreen, reveals a new test.

Cheap wiper blades for the windscreen need not be a bad investment. This reveals a new test that the Swedish Testfakta has had the vision chain Dekra carry out.

The company states this in a press release .

A cheap wiper blade from Biltema came third in the test and thus beat several of the more expensive and better-known products from big brands.

– The Hella and Continental blades were disappointing. Especially considering their well-known brands in the mid-price range, says Yanick Fuhrmann, test manager from Dekra Automobil.

The test result does not mean, however, that the well-known brands have necessarily completely abandoned it. The winner of the test was Bosch with a rating of 9.5 out of 10, closely followed by SWF which received a rating of 9.4 out of 10.

But the big surprise of the test – the wiper blades from Biltema – was rated 8.7 out of 10. Something that stands out because the wiper blades from the department store were the absolutely cheapest set of the test.

In comparison, the test's most expensive set from Valeo ended up in fifth place. The kit from Biltema fared better when it came to both performance and durability.

What made the cheapest wiper blade not win the test is the way the blade is assembled. Compared to the competitors directly ahead, the cheaper blade is 'a bit more complicated in assembly', reads the conclusion.
