Anticipating a wild move from Danish car dealers

Close to half of all car dealers in Denmark have too many cars on hand, according to Statistics Denmark.

There are far too many cars sitting out at far too many car dealers in Denmark. Figures from Statistics Denmark show that 45 per cent of all car dealers in Denmark burn down with far too many cars in stock.

This is what the statistics office writes in a press release .

In fact, the number of cars that car dealers just keep has only been increasing since 2022. And this is the biggest increase in stock cars since the corona year 2020.

And that could possibly send a ripple through the industry in the near future. This is what private economist at Arbejdernes Landsbank Brian Friis Helmer tells Ritzau. In other words, there are bargains to be had. Maybe.

– If the stock is too large, it may mean that prices will be lowered to get rid of some of the cars. Either by selling them or by leasing them out.

– But how much they will lower the price depends on demand, says the private economist.

The picture today is completely different from the car dealers' situation in 2022, where cars were missing in several places.

At the time, 70 percent of the car dealers in Denmark answered that the missing cars. And even if the number of new cars increased in 2023, it cannot empty the stocks the car dealers have now.
