Vejtrafikens Oplysningsråd (OFV) must now correct its own information that electric cars have outnumbered petrol cars in Norway.
It still doesn't fit when the Norwegian member association announced earlier this week that there are now more electric than petrol cars in Norway.
It was otherwise based on this number that Norwegian as well as international media reported the story. Boosted also wrote that electric cars had surpassed petrol cars in Norway.
But now OFV has retracted the statement after the industry website Bilnytt.no entered the matter with a justified question. Namely how OFV distinguishes between car types.
– In this case, we distinguish between pure petrol and diesel cars. Hybrids of different types are grouped separately, says OFV chief Øyvind Solberg Thorsen to Bilnytt.
Øyvind Solberg Thorsen admits, however, that the wrong nuance – i.e. where the hybrid cars were referred to as electric cars – initially appeared in the press release.

According to Motor.no, the correct breakdown of the car fleet in Norway is somewhat different than OFV initially claimed. In fact, electric cars are far behind both petrol and diesel cars. And that even though new car sales are really dominated by electric cars. Read more about it here .
It's actually not going so well for electric cars. At least not as well as most car brands had both believed and expected just a few years ago.
An example of this miscalculation can be found at both the European car manufacturers' interest body ACEA and at Volkswagen.
At ACEA, chairman Luca de Meo believes that the EU needs to postpone planned and much stricter emission requirements if the European car industry is still to be a business. Motorists are not buying enough electric cars.
And with a single brand like Volkswagen, it is more difficult to sell than the management had thought. In this connection, so many investments have been made that Volkswagen is now a deeply indebted company. According to the economic director, the Germans owe a total of DKK 3,200 billion.
The correct distribution of the Norwegian car fleet:
● 38.57 percent petrol cars,
● 35.16 percent diesel cars
● 26.24 percent electric cars
