Costs DKK 10,000 in stalls – now fewer drivers do it

Fewer drivers sit with their heads buried in their mobile phones behind the wheel. The decline has occurred over the past two years, Norwegian research shows.

In the past two years, at least, Norwegians have increasingly put down their mobile phones when they drive.

This is shown by the latest figures from the Norwegian Emergency Police.

It may be related to the toll rates in the country. In February 2023, the country's government increased the fine for hand-held mobile calls to a whopping NOK 10,000.

This corresponds to 6,300 Danish kroner. By comparison, it costs DKK 2,000 and a cut in the choir card to break the corresponding ban in Denmark.

– As a driver, it is important to pay attention to the traffic and ensure that everyone in the convoy wears a seat belt correctly.

– These are two simple and effective safety measures that you must always keep an eye on before and during the crossing, says UP chief Knut Smedsrud in a press release .

Just because some drivers have improved on a parameter, it does not mean that all drivers have generally improved in traffic. On the contrary, repeated studies show that assistant systems in new cars make drivers worse off.

Nevertheless, more and more safety systems are being added to new cars. Most of them due to legal requirements from the EU. Most recently, the union has, among other things, determine how the rear lights should light up. Read more about it here .
