An American company, Cobb Tuning, has been fined the equivalent of 20 million Danish kroner due to illegal chip tuning.
American Cobb Tuning has been convicted of selling illegal chip tuning and equipment that can manipulate cars' emissions systems. The fine must be paid over three years, and the company has been forced to stop sales.
The case has been brought by the US environmental authority EPA, which has cracked down on Cobb Tuning for having sold over 90,000 units that can disable or reduce the effect of emission control equipment.
This is what the US Department of Justice writes in a press release .
In addition, the company has also sold 8,400 exhaust systems, which are clearly illegal to use on public roads.

In addition to paying the fine, Cobb Tuning must also remove their technical support, which the illegal products have covered. Just as the guarantee must be torn in half.
In this way, the authorities will ensure that Cobb Tuning cannot help its customers to use or maintain the illegal equipment.
The settlement is part of a settlement between Cobb Tuning and the EPA. The amount was determined based on the company's financial situation, which is the reason why the price was not increased. If the fine had been larger, the company would have had difficulty repaying the entire amount.
In connection with the settlement, Cobb Tuning has issued a statement in which they acknowledge that they take the authorities' demands seriously.
– I am happy to report that these product changes are behind us, says Jeff King, managing director of Cobb Tuning.
The case is reminiscent of several similar cases from the USA in particular, where both car brands, sub-suppliers in the car industry and individual mechanics who have manipulated car emissions have been hit hard.
It is not more than a year ago that a mechanic was fined 7 million kroner for similar fraud. At home, the then government proposed back in 2017 to punish chip tuning even more severely.
