There are now more electric cars than petrol cars in Norway

At the end of September, electric cars will have outcompeted petrol cars on Norwegian roads, brand new figures show.

The race is apparently short for the petrol cars. At least in Norway, where a projection shows that the electric car will be dominant shortly.

Specifically, a review from the Norwegian authorities, which Bilbransje24 refers to, shows that at the end of September there will be more electric than petrol cars on Norwegian roads.

Registrations of new petrol and diesel cars have fallen sharply in recent years, while electric cars have become increasingly popular. This is not least due to Norway's huge state subsidy for electric cars, which keeps most electric cars completely tax-free.

However, it is still the diesel cars that make up the most in Norway. The number of them peaked in 2017, but here too it has been going downhill ever since. So in number. Meanwhile, the number of petrol cars has decreased since 2010.

And now there are so few of them left that there are physically more electric cars in Norway. This can be explained, among other things, by the scrapping of several older petrol cars.

Approximately one in four cars registered in Norway is now an electric car. In the month of August, electric cars accounted for as much as 94 percent of an otherwise very charred new car sale in our neighboring country. Read more about it here.

There are indications, however, that the Norwegians are having enough of electric cars. Several cities are thus removing the extra advantages of electric cars on the roads. Among other things, the exception which means that they can drive in bus lanes and park for free.

Conversely, the Norwegian government has also had to go to the media to put down a widespread view. The government defends itself by saying that, unlike the EU countries, it will not ban new cars with internal combustion engines. Nor will it happen from 1 January 2025, it says.
