The police seize Teslas against the owners' will

The police in the American city of Oakland seized three Teslas this summer in order to extract video recordings from the cars.

Here at home, the police will come after your car if you are speeding. In Oakland, USA, it is enough that your car just recorded some video.

This summer, the police in the American city of Oakland in the state of California seized three Teslas because the cars are equipped with the so-called 'Sentry Mode'.

In all cases, the police have done this to check whether the cars have recorded any video from a possible crime scene.

In the course of the period between July and August this year, the police seized the three cars in this way. This is written by several media – i.a. San Francisco Chronicle .

The police will initially ask for the owner's permission to access the video material. However, if the owner refuses or cannot be located, a search warrant can be issued, giving the police the right to seize the car to obtain the videos.

At home, several experts have no doubt at all that Tesla is directly breaking the law, because the brand's cars are constantly filming and monitoring the surroundings.

– We have come to the conclusion that if a car with a car camera on is parked on a publicly accessible road, it must be covered by the TV Surveillance Act.

– And then it is basically prohibited, says law professor at SDU in Odense Sten Schaumburg-Müller back in January to TV 2 Kosmopol.

Much apropos of Tesla in our latitudes, a new EU decision could end up making the brand's cars significantly cheaper in Denmark.

The EU must soon decide on a permanent punitive tariff against the car brands that have cars built in China. And here it seems that Tesla has once again made the EU take a more lenient view of the brand's cars.

In any case, there are many indications that Tesla is the car brand that escapes the penalty duty absolutely cheapest. Something that Tesla has actually already responded to by raising the price. However, the new position from the EU may cancel that decision. Read more about it here .
