The Chinese buy 1 million electric cars in 1 month

China is the first country in the world where 1 million new electric cars have been sold in the course of a month. An increase of 33 percent compared to August 2023.

The Chinese are the first in the world to ever buy one million electric cars in a month. The figures for the month of August are 33 percent higher than a year ago.

Reuters writes that.

However, this does not mean that sales of cars in China have generally improved. On the contrary, figures from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) show that the number of new passenger cars has fallen.

Sales are down 1.1 percent, even though the Chinese government is pumping out a lot of money to drivers who want to replace their internal combustion engine car with an electric car or a hybrid car.

Specifically, the communist dictatorship gives 20,000 yuan, equivalent to 19,000 Danish kroner, to people who replace petrol or diesel with electricity. Motorists who are not ready to jump into an electric car can get 15,000 yuan, equivalent to DKK 14,230, in support for a new hybrid car.

The Chinese have a knack for merging electric and hybrid cars into one. When this happens, it is called New Energy Vehicles (NEVS). On the other hand, that group of cars now makes up 53 percent of all new cars in the country.

By comparison, electric and hybrid cars make up just over 11.3 percent of the car fleet here at home. It is not all places, however, that motorists are crazy about electric cars. In Germany, for example, sales of pure electric cars have collapsed for the 8th month in a row.
