Fiat stops production of unsaleable electric cars

Fiat stops production of the electric car 500e. The coppers simply disappear. The factory is also working on a hybrid solution.

Fiat stops production of the electric car 500e at the Mirafiori factory in Turin. The assembly line must lie completely still for four weeks.

In a press release, Stellantis, who owns Fiat, refers to the major problems that all car manufacturers are experiencing on the car market at the moment. In particular, the group refers to "deep difficulties" in the electric car market.

Reuters writes that.

– The action is necessary due to the current lack of orders, linked to the deep difficulties that all manufacturers are experiencing on the European electric car market, says Stellantis.

In January this year, Stellantis chose to fire 2,250 employees at the factory. More than half of them worked at the assembly line from which the electric Fiat 500e will eventually emerge.

Although the factory in Turin will now be idle, this does not mean that Fiat will also go to sleep. In the background, the Italians are working to get a hybrid motorized version of the 500 model on the roads.

The cars are simply converted into small hybrids with petrol engines, although the Fiat 500e is actually built on a platform intended only for electric cars. Boosted told us about it back in May.

The original Fiat 500, i.e. the relaunched model that shares technology with the Ford Ka, left the assembly line earlier this year. A band that otherwise had cards for a whole 17 years.

Fiat is, as Stellantis points out, far from the only car brand with serious problems at the moment. At Volkswagen, it is more directly about economy. The brand, which gives its name to an entire group, owes a staggering DKK 3,200 billion.

The finance director believes that there are two or three years to reverse the trend, because Volkswagen is running out of time. The car brand's enormous debt has already had direct consequences for the cars. Read more about it here .
