9-year-old started police chase to get to school

A 9-year-old boy made it all the way to his school with the police hot on his heels. He even managed to ram into one of the police cars.

The drivers are getting younger and younger. Also here at home, where since 2018, under certain conditions, 17-year-olds have had to go out into traffic.

But a 9-year-old boy behind the wheel still belongs to the rarities. Conversely, that was exactly what the police in the American city of Oroville, which is located in the state of California, caught sight of on Wednesday morning last week.

That's what SFGate writes.

Around. 09:20 local time, a patrol caught sight of a gray Volkswagen Jetta with a very young man behind the wheel. And a police chase started otherwise.

Albeit a very short one of its kind. For the boy, the Jetta parked just a few blocks away. It later turned out to be in the immediate vicinity of the boy's school.

Before the car was parked, however, the boy also had the patrol car ticketed. Whether it was intentional, however, is not known. When the police caught up with the boy, he explained that he was just trying to get to school.

A woman who is allegedly the boy's grandmother confirms this interpretation to the media. She also explains that the boy grabbed some for the car when his mother was in the toilet.

What consequences it has for the very young driver, that he grabbed the car keys to get to school, remains unclear.

However, it is far from the first time that children, who are not actually allowed to drive a car, get behind the wheel. In England, an 11-year-old boy recently drove around with both a caravan in tow and a sea of stolen number plates in a BMW X5. Read more about that case here .
