83-year-old smashes rare Lamborghini at 180 km/h

An 83-year-old German man lost control of a Lamborghini Countach at 180 km/h the other day. The accident subsequently blocked an entire stretch of highway.

An 83-year-old driver lost control of his classic Lamborghini Countach at high speed on the German Autobahn near Bremerhaven, causing both major damage and traffic chaos.

An 83-year-old man was involved in a serious accident on the German Autobahn. He was driving his classic red Lamborghini Countach. The accident happened near Bremerhaven and caused extensive material damage.

That's what Bild writes .

The incident turned a ride in the rare supercar into chaos. It happened in the middle of heavy German holiday traffic. The road was blocked for hours.

The red Lamborghini was speeding on a stretch of road with no speed limit. This is permitted on certain parts of the German motorway network. The elderly driver apparently took advantage of the opportunity to go at high speed.

According to a witness, the car was traveling very fast in the left lane. The witness estimated the speed at around 180 kilometers per hour. That's a high speed, even for a supercar.

Suddenly, the 83-year-old had to brake hard. The police report indicates that he came too close to an anchored car. The hard braking had fatal consequences.

Lost control and blocked the highway for 4 hours

The driver lost control of the powerful Lamborghini. The car began to skid uncontrollably. The classic sports car does not have modern stability systems.

The Countach hit the side of a van with a trailer. The collision was violent. Both vehicles were thrown towards the median.

Both the Lamborghini and the van hit the guardrail hard. The van ended up across the roadway, completely blocking traffic.

Wreckage from the smashed Lamborghini lay scattered across the asphalt, testifying to the severity of the accident. The cleanup effort was extensive.

The busy highway had to be completely closed to traffic, causing long queues and delays. The road was only reopened after more than four hours.

Damage, costs and traffic chaos

The driver of the van, a 65-year-old man, was slightly injured and had to be taken to hospital for observation and treatment.

The 83-year-old Lamborghini owner, incredibly, escaped without any physical injuries. However, his pride and car suffered major damage. The car is described as severely damaged.

– I saw the car coming at a very high speed into the left lane, because it suddenly started to skid, an eyewitness told German media.

The German authorities have assessed the damage to the rare car. The police alone estimate that the damage to the car amounts to one and a half million Danish kroner.

The Lamborghini Countach is a true automotive legend from the 1970s and 1980s. Known for its wedge-shaped design and powerful V12 engine, it is today an icon and an expensive collector's item.

The incident highlights that high speeds always involve risk. This also applies to Autobahn sections without speed limits. Older cars in particular require the driver's full attention.

The accident caused massive traffic problems near Bremerhaven. The complete closure lasted for over four hours. It affected many travelers in the middle of the holiday season.
