81-year-old fraudster felled by wet license plate

An 81-year-old man thought he had circumvented the system by painting his own number plate. However, the rain ended up revealing him.

An 81-year-old man from Thy has been convicted of fraud after having a home-made license plate around.

The man was discovered by a police patrol on Tigervej in Thisted when they noticed the fake number plate on his deregistered car.

In order to circumvent the law and choirs in his deregistered car, the 81-year-old man had constructed his own number plate.

This is written by TV Midtvest .

He had used a piece of iron, probably from an old test plate, and painted a registration number on it. However, the number plate was easy to see through as a fake, as the paint had started to peel off.

– He probably didn't choose a fast-drying paint. The patrol could at least quickly see that something was wrong, Police Commissioner Henrik Jensen tells the media.

The man is now charged with forgery, a violation of the Criminal Code, and can expect to appear in court.

It is not the first time that motorists try to sneak around the provisions of the Road Traffic Act with a home-made number plate. However, some drivers take fraud to a whole new level by pretending to be something they are definitely not.

As recently as this year, a man in a messy Dacia was arrested and charged with fitting his car with blue blinkers. In this way, the police believe that he has been driving around and harassing several motorists in several places in the country. Read more about it here .

What's more, a young driver in an older Audi A4 tried to stop other drivers by also pretending to be from the police. That game stopped, however, when he stopped a real police patrol. It cost him both the choir card, a prison sentence and a large fine.
