80 percent of all G-Classes still run, says Mercedes

80 percent of all G-Classes that Mercedes has ever built are still on the road. The brand says so itself.

The G-Class is a tough banana.

This was emphasized by the head of AMG and the person responsible for the G-Class program Michael Schiebe recently in an interview with a number of journalists.

– 80 percent of the G-Classes that have ever been built are still on the roads, said Michael Schiebe at a press conference in France.

Mercedes built the 500,000th G-Class in April last year, and according to Michael Schiebe's calculation, there are still 400,000 of them on the roads today. Production actually started way back in 1979.

For comparison, Porsche says that it is 'only' expected that around 70 percent of all the 911 models the brand has built over time still exist. Or at least are in a condition where they can drive on the roads.

Back at Mercedes, you don't – like Porsche, in fact – make big changes to a hit. Therefore, the G-Class also looks like itself.

And even more so than Porsche's 911. And although the G-Class, unlike the 911, has become electric.

That car – i.e. the G-Class as an electric car – will also come to Denmark. But it will be far from a gift. The G 580 with EQ Technology, as the car is called, is one of the few electric cars that come to Denmark with full registration tax. Read more about it here .
