73-year-old man disqualified from driving until 2117

A 73-year-old man is about to die before he is technically eligible to drive again. A court in New South Wales, Australia, has banned him from doing so until 2117.

A 73-year-old man has been banned from driving a motor vehicle until the year 2117, a court in New South Wales, Australia, has ruled.

The significant suspension of his driver's license is due to the man's repeated violations of the traffic law. In fact, he just kept doing it, according to both the police and the legal system.

The case has attracted considerable attention due to the unusually long period the man has been banned from driving.

But it all started with a routine traffic stop in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.

Here, the police stopped a car driven by 73-year-old Garry William Nipperess. After a routine alcohol test, which was initially negative, the subsequent check revealed that the elderly gentleman had already been disqualified from driving. And that until 2117.

When will he be 165 years old before he can drive a car again?

The local police wrote this in a post on Facebook .

Nipperess's police report also reveals that he doesn't really care, even though he has already been repeatedly thrown in jail for breaking traffic laws.

Eight months before the latest arrest, he was released from prison after serving a 10-month sentence for driving without a license again.

Back in 2012, he was sentenced to two years in prison for drunk driving. At that time, he was banned from driving until 2058.

From 2015 to 2018, he was jailed annually for ignoring a traffic ban. The five subsequent convictions resulted in prison sentences of between six and twelve months. In the end, he had an additional 32 years added to his sentence.

Upon arrest, the police seized Nipperess' car and he was held without bail.

During the trial he pleaded guilty. The sentence will not be handed down until April. However, the police believe that with the old man's history there is a high risk that he will spend a very long time behind bars this time.

With a driving ban now in effect until 2117, it is likely that the 73-year-old will never be able to legally drive again. To regain his license, he would have to reach the age of 165.
