40,000 electric cars with terrible problem are being recalled again

Kia must issue the same recall for the second time in four years. This time it is crazy with the handbrake in almost 40,000 versions of an electric car Soul.

It's been four years since the last time. And now Kia has to do it again. The South Korean car brand is still struggling with electronic hand brakes that don't work.

This time, the brand has come to the conclusion that there is a worldwide problem with the handbrake in 39,606 versions of the electric Kia Soul – also called e-soul.

In Germany alone, there are 11,760 cars. That's what Auto Motor und Sport writes.

In 2020, Kia said it had problems with the electronics in the handbrake. In some cases it was not possible to get the brakes to stop the car from rolling away.

Not even if the gear selector was set to 'P' – i.e. the parking gear. Kia also played with that in 2020.

At that time, however, the problem was that the parking gear did not engage when the ignition was removed from the car. In 2020, Kia also said that the fault could not occur in other of the brand's cars.

Kia itself says that this time it will solve the problem with the handbrake with a software update. With the update, the handbrake is activated automatically when the ignition is switched off.

A post on the Danish Kia importer's website reveals that the Danish Kia e-soul from 2019 is not immediately covered by the recall.

But a corresponding model from 2016 can be similar, Boosted's review of a number of number plates on e-Soul models shows. In this connection, Kia Denmark advises that the owners contact the nearest brand workshop.

However, Kia also fights with more than just electronic hand brakes. Back in February, it emerged that the brand is recalling over 1,200 self-destructing cars. Read more about it here .

Conversely, the number of cars is peanuts compared to the gigantic recall Honda is facing. In fact, it is so massive that the Japanese car brands are afraid to lobby tor for spare parts.

According to Honda, no motorists have yet been injured due to the error, just as no traffic accidents have been recorded due to the defective fuel pumps. Read more about it here .
