2 out of 3 Danes say in a new survey, which You Gov is behind, that winter tires must be mandatory in Denmark.
The majority of Danes support the idea that it should be compulsory by law to use winter tires in the winter months.
A new survey by YouGov, carried out on behalf of Gjensidige, shows that two out of three Danes believe that winter tires should be required, as is already the case in several neighboring countries such as Sweden, Norway and Germany.
In Denmark, however, it is not a legal requirement to change to winter tyres, but the desire for a legislation is growing among Danes, especially after the last winter, when the weather conditions were demanding and the road grip challenged by frost and snow.
According to Lene Rasmussen, claims director at Gjensidige, the desire for winter tire requirements can be seen as a practical trend
– It is only good that the Danes want it to be compulsory by law to drive with winter tires, as it is also something that makes the drivers and the car more equipped for the smooth roads that we expect, she says in a press release .

She also highlights how winter tires can contribute to increased safety in winter conditions, where grip is challenged by frost and snow-filled roads.
Despite the great support for mandatory winter tyres, the survey shows that three out of ten Danes have no plans to replace their summer tires with winter tyres. However, Lene Rasmussen strongly recommends that motorists consider switching from summer to winter tyres.
– If you still use summer tires on your car, you should strongly consider changing to winter tires or alternatively all-season tires before the frost hits. It is a good idea to have the tires checked so that you can drive safely on the winter roads.
A number of Danes choose all-season tires as a solution for winter driving, and the survey shows that 16 percent of them have already fitted these tires and therefore do not plan further changes.
– According to FDM, all-season tires can meet the needs of many motorists, but they also assess that even the best all-season tires can have difficulty performing optimally in harsh winter conditions.
Lene Rasmussen sees all-season tires as an acceptable choice compared to summer tires, but she emphasizes that winter tires are still the safest solution in the event of severe winter weather.
– When it is winter, all-season tires are better than summer tires, but winter tires are the safest when there is serious snow on the roads.
– Therefore, we recommend that you consider what needs you have in relation to the roundabout in winter weather, she points out and encourages motorists to plan tire changes in good time for the onset of winter.
Despite a majority in the population, the government has already refused to introduce an order for winter tires in Denmark. The responsible authorities simply do not think that the weather is generally bad enough in Denmark. Read more about it here .
