18-year-old gets fined for mistakes all drivers can make

An 18-year-old woman had to watch on the night of Monday while the police fined her because her car had been stolen.

A woman of just 18 had to accept a summons from the Central and West Jutland Police on Monday night. That is, because her car was stolen and later used during a car chase.

This is written by TV Midtvest .

It is illegal to let others sit in the car if you, as a driver, intend to leave the car. And the woman did. More precisely, she went with her boyfriend to a tank in Thisted, when both the car and some people disappeared.

The car thief headed towards Skive. And although the police made contact with the man, who turned out to be 31 years old and from Ringkobing-Skjern, the person in question did not have much desire to talk to the law enforcement authorities. Something that sparked a car chase.

The 31-year-old short-circuited both the car into a piling plant and a staircase, because he eventually fled on foot. However, he was no faster than the police could chase him up.

However, the law enforcement did not think that it was punishment enough in itself that the 18-year-old woman had her car both stolen and smashed. So now she has to pay a fine. The starting point is DKK 1,000.

Incidentally, it is far from the first time that a motorist has been ticketed for leaving some people in the ignition lock. Back in April 2023, a 46-year-old Seat owner got a ticket for exactly the same thing.

Specifically, the penalty falls because, according to the police, both the 46-year-old and now the 18-year-old have violated section 28 section 4 of the Road Traffic Act:

"When the driver of a choir train leaves this, it must be ensured that the choir train cannot start by itself.

The driver must also take measures to ensure that the choir carriage cannot be used unjustifiably by others. Mandatory anti-theft device must be in operation. The Minister of Transport can lay down provisions on which types of locking devices must be used."
