11-year-old stopped on motorway in BMW with fake number plates

According to the police in North Yorkshire, it was not exactly the driver they had expected to stop. "Nothing could have prepared us for that," says law enforcement.

Thursday 7 March will probably be a day the traffic police in North Yorkshire, England, will not forget. At least not right away.

On the M1 motorway near the city of Leeds, a patrol did not just stop a black BMW X5 with stolen number plates, which was pulling a stolen caravan, behind the wheel was a driver no one had expected.

Although it only took police a little over an hour to track down the caravan, nothing could have prepared them for the ensuing scenario on the motorway.

A spokesperson from the police circle tells the newspaper The Guardian .

– Nothing could have prepared us for the fact that we would find a schoolboy behind the wheel. But in the car we also found a number of remedies that are typically used in car thefts. For example, several stolen number plates.

The very young driver was arrested and charged with a wide range of breaches of British law. Among other things, theft, burglary and for being in possession of objects that can be used for this.

He is also charged with a number of offenses behind the wheel of the BMW. For example, dangerous and reckless traffic.

Fortunately for the 11-year-old – and everyone else on the M1 motorway on Thursday – no one was hurt. Just as no material damage has occurred either. But the young man is just the latest in a series of cases involving very young drivers behind the wheel.

For the same reason, especially owners of trailers and caravans are encouraged to invest in locks and surveillance equipment.

All the while, the investigation against the 11-year-old, who is currently is released on bail. Who owns the BMW is unknown. But at least the caravan has been returned to its rightful owner.
