10 percent of drivers will never own an electric car

A new, global survey indicates that the majority of drivers see themselves in electric cars within 10 years. However, 10 percent permanently say no thanks.

A new survey shows that although a group of 10 percent of car buyers will never consider an electric car, a majority of consumers in the largest car markets still expect to switch to an electric car within ten years.

This is even though the growth in car sales has slowed significantly in recent years.

The survey, carried out by the consulting company Accenture , delves into consumers' attitudes towards electric cars. And here they have looked at the reasons why the electric car is chosen.

The results indicate that car manufacturers must focus on meeting consumers' needs for reliability, safety and price in order to increase sales of electric cars.

– To drive the market forward, manufacturers must address the personal motivation of these future, regular electric car buyers.

– This requires a strategic shift of focus towards customers who prioritize reliability, security and price, the survey's conclusion states.

The survey, which includes 6,000 car buyers from the USA, Germany, Italy, France, China and Japan, reveals a significant variation in attitudes towards electric cars across national borders.

In China, there is widespread optimism about the future of the electric car, with 65 percent of respondents believing that electric cars will dominate the market.

In contrast, there is greater skepticism in Germany and France, where 37 percent and 36 percent respectively are considering buying an electric car as their next car.

In the US, 54 percent of respondents expect to own an electric car within the next 10 years, while 11 percent deny ever making the switch from a diesel or gasoline car to something with an electric car engine.

In Japan, a brand like Toyota believes that the electric car will never really catch on. In any case, the former director and current chairman of the board says that the car type will never occupy more than 30 percent of the global market.

At the same time, a whole series of car brands are on the verge of undoing their goals when it comes to electric cars. Most recently, Volvo announced that it was 'easy' to scrap the ceiling on only building electric cars in 2030. Read more about it here .
